Taste the Spanish Flavours of Barcelona

Barcelona is for many the perfect city to spend a day, a weekend or even a few weeks visiting. Located in the north-east of Spain, Barcelona is the most populous city in the Catalonia region.

Indeed, the Spanish culture and vibrant atmosphere attracts many visitors to this great city every year - and it is easy to see why. In fact, exploring the city is easy thanks to the excellent public transport in the metro, bus and tram networks, whilst many of the major sights are located within walking distance.

The best way to start your first day in Barcelona is to head down Las Ramblas - one of Barcelonaâ s most vibrant streets. Its stalls, markets and shops are constantly busy, meaning there is no better place to get a feel for the Spanish culture. If you wander further down the streets you can take in the sights and stop at Mercat La Boqueria, a wonderful fresh produce market.

From the Mercat La Boqueria, continue down Las Ramblas to find the sea. You can wander along the water front of the harbour or find your way to one of Barcelonaâ s seven beaches for a day in the Mediterranean sun for a spot of relaxation.

A specific site not to be missed in Barcelona is the Sagrada Familia - this phenomenal structure is a church that was originally designed by popular Spanish artist Antonio Gaudi. Indeed, it has been under construction since 1882 and is projected to be completely finished in 2026, one hundred years after Gaudiâ s death.

As with many of the sights in Barcelona, the Parc Guell was also designed by Gaudi. A walk through this surreal landscape, filled with fountains and sculptures, can prove a worthwhile way to spend an afternoon.

Of course, the Spanish nightlife is another great reason to visit Barcelona and you canâ t escape spending at least one night in a traditional tapas bar; tapas is the name for a wide range of small meals or appetisers that the Spaniards often eat for dinner. Indeed, you can order a selection of little plates, each offering different and delicious flavours. However, beware of heading out for your dinner too early though - the Spaniards are renowned for not eating their dinner until at least 10pm or 11pm!

It is also good to know that as a major metropolitan city there is accommodation to suit every budget, whilst flights to Barcelona operate all year round; therefore, you can escape to this wonderful destination as and when you wish. So as you can see, treating yourself to a Spanish fiesta has never been so easy.
