Hospitality From the Inside

I have 22 years experience in the hospitality industry. Must of those years were with Days Inn. Iā m sure most of you have heard of them, the big yellow sunburst?

The main thing Iā ve enjoyed about this business is the opportunity to meet such a variety of people every day. For the most part, Iā ve learned that people are basically good and honest. Iā ve met Playboy bunnies, country singers, professional wrestlers, and many more interesting people.

As far as experience, the hospitality industry is changing every day. So, itā s not uncommon to hear someone say ā Iā ve been in this business for 20 years, and Iā m still learning.ā

Iā m sure most have rented a hotel room at one time or another in their life. Have you noticed how rates will be higher in the summer, and lower in the winter months? From this, we know that rates are base on supply and demand. In other words, not as many people are traveling in the winter months, so a hotel manager will lower rates in order to sell rooms. However, in the summer time there are normally more travelers. Therefore, that same hotel manager will raise rates because more people will be wanting rooms. Itā s quite simple, the demand for rooms goes up, the rate goes up, the demand for rooms goes down, the rate goes up.
