- Before you leave for that great vacation hotspot of yours, call up your friends and family and talk to them about gifts they would be interested in you bringing them back. If you want to bring back a gift as a surprise, ask them a few questions like if they were going what types of attractions they would be interested in getting for themselves.
- Give the gift of photos to family and close friends who would appreciate the sentiment behind the picture. Take a bunch of the best pictures and put them together in an album. It will make a perfect gift when you return home.
- Find some local shopping guides or pamphlet for tourists when you arrive for ideas on where to go shopping for local crafts and specialties unique to the area. Not only are these types of gifts made locally and creating jobs better for the local economy than Wal-Mart but they are also more likely to be distinctive and of really good quality.
- If you get the opportunity to venture away from the local tourist district of where you are visiting, stop in some of the more local stores, shops and market. You may stumble across an item while common for the area would be considered beautiful and unusual as a gift back home.
- Try to find gifts that someone can associate with certain parts of your trip experience. For example, if you are visiting England, buy a beautiful and exotic teacup similar to ones used at an exclusive café in London for your sister. If you visit San Francisco, buy something music related from one their local record stores for that little brother trying to get a band together.
- Instead of spending a large amount of money on one gift, buy a few small gifts from a few different places.
